NBCA to Relocate Headquarters to the Campus of Simmons College of Kentucky
Dallas, Texas-September 22, 2016 – The National Baptist Convention of America International, Inc. (NBCA) announces the relocation of its headquarters to the campus of Simmons College of Kentucky after a unanimous vote by the Board of Directors and voting delegates during their 136th annual session held in Cincinnati, Ohio.
NBCA’s move to the historically black college campus comes after a decision by the Department of Transportation to expand Interstate 35/South R. L. Thornton Fwy in Dallas. The highway passes alongside NBCA’s current headquarters.
“The historic decision of the NBCA to relocate their corporate office to Simmons College in Louisville, Kentucky, will be the talk of the nation. Besides the practical benefits for both the NBCA and Simmons, it represents the spirit of collaboration that first gave birth to our institutions in the mid-19th century,” said Dr. Kevin Cosby, president of Simmons College of Kentucky and senior pastor of St. Stephen Church.
The new educational partnership between the NBCA and Simmons College of Kentucky develops an educational provider for NBCA’s denomination. The new partnership will result in the delivery of degree programs and other educational opportunities and programs for the leadership and members of this historic denomination.
“This partnership is one of many that NBCA will be entering into in the days, weeks and months ahead as we seek to identify ways to continually increase our capacity and ability to serve congregations and our members. We owe a debt of gratitude to Dr. Cosby and his capable team who have worked to make this possible. We eagerly anticipate a mutually beneficial relationship for NBCA and Simmons College going forward,” said Rev. Samuel C. Tolbert, Jr., NBCA President, who was lead in making the partnership possible.
“The prestige of having NBCA on our campus will provide Simmons, an HBCU, exposure and validation. We appreciate Dr. Tolbert initiating this groundbreaking partnership,” said Cosby. “The presence of NBCA at Simmons will create a synergy that will allow us to advance each other’s mission. Simmons will be able to create affordable space as well radically reduce NBCA expenses in multiple areas.”
NBCA will be housed in one of the campus’ oldest buildings, having been built in 1873. The official move will happen upon the finalization of the sale of the current headquarters.
The National Baptist Convention of America Int’l, Inc. is a fellowship approximating 3.5 million African-American Baptists whose initial roots stemmed from the organization of the Foreign Mission Baptist Convention of the United States. The focus of the NBCA, since its inception and prior to its incorporation status, has been upon education, home and foreign missions and the publication and circulation of religious literature.
Simmons College of Kentucky is dedicated to educating people in the urban context through strong academic and professional programs in order that they may become productive citizens and agents of change in society.
