“If we are serious about following God within our context, we must be willing to engage with ‘the other,’” says Iris de León-Hartshorn, director of transformative peacemaking for Mennonite Church USA. “Our world is rapidly changing, and as a church we need to find ways to adapt to new realities within our communities, which are no longer homogeneous enclaves. And if we are going to be serious about Matthew 28:19-20—the Great Commission—we must be willing to be in relationship with people who are different from us.”
